Located somewhere in the North Dakota region of the United States of America lies a city in the Richland County along the Bois de Sioux River and the Otto Tail River. This city is known as Wahpeton and happens to date back to even the 1700s when the first European settler came to the land and decided to explore it. Here is a brief history of this city and how it became a very populous city that is found in the United States.
As mentioned above, the city was officially founded in the year 1869. However, it was first explored by the Europeans in 1767 with the expedition of Jonathan Carver. Although the task of Carver was to search for the Northwest Passage, his travels actually made it possible for more Europeans to get inside the area and eventually explore it too.
It was only after the Civil War though, that the United States Government decided to develop the area. The development of the land was headed by JW Blanding, who discovered that the land in this Dakota territory was very fertile. Because of this, he and his family moved right away to the Dakota land and set up their home there.
After that, the first official settler named Morgan Rich arrived during 1869. He was followed by many other settlers who formed a community named Richville under his name and further developed the land. It was during this time when the area was first officially turned into an actual community wherein its settlers thrived due to the fertile land.
From Richville, the next set of inhabitants decided to rename the town to Chahinkapa two years later. As the development and expansion of this town continued, the town of Chahinkapa turned into the Chahinkapa County. It is also very interesting to note that the name Chahinkapa, which means end of the forests, was chosen because there were a lot of forest or woods areas around.
Somewhere along the line, they changed the name of the county to Richland County, based on the name of the founder again. After that, it then changed its name to the name that it has right now. This name was actually based off the name of the Wakhpetonwan tribe which was the tribe of local Indians that first resided somewhere in the Lake Mille Lacs.
A year later, the country further improved economically because they built a whole new set of railroads which brought in more travelers. Aside from travelers, a lot of freight deliveries going to Dakota made use of these railroads and trains. Also, it was because of these railroads that more immigrants came to the countryside which made there more settlers.
Today, this city is booming having several large manufacturing plants located in it. Further development of the city was implemented when the voters approved of a one and a half percent tax that goes directly to improving the city. Because of that, this city is a great attraction for a lot of tourists and wonderful home for the residents as it is very livable and beautiful.
